In 1983, British psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd released the album The Final Cut, signaling the next step in the legendary band’s creative evolution. The Fletcher Memorial Home is the eighth track on the album, and also features on various “Best-of” career retrospectives. Written by Roger Waters, the song is a progressive rock song with elements of hard rock, and it explores global politics following World War II, with a clear anti-Imperialist message and a confrontational tone towards world leaders such as Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, labeling them “overgrown infants” and “incurable tyrants.” The song is named after Roger Waters’s father, Eric Fletcher Waters, who was a soldier killed during World War II. The song was produced by Roger Waters along with James Guthrie and Michael Kamen, and features the participation of the National Philharmonic Orchestra. "The Fletcher Memorial Home" was first performed live by Roger Waters in 2006.
