Baz Luhrmann had originally anticipated "Come What May" for Romeo + Juliet but ended up placing the song in his beloved Moulin Rouge film instead, using it to soundtrack a particularly revelatory moment in the 2001 Hollywood classic. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman made this love ballad their own, belting it out at a point in the movie when their counterparts Christian and Satine are moved to express their love for each other. "Never knew I could feel like this / Like I've never seen the sky before / Want to vanish inside your kiss / Every day I love you more and more / Listen to my heart, can you hear it sing?," gushes Christian, before the pair come together to proclaim, "And there's no mountain too high / No river too wide / Sing out this song, and I'll be there by your side / Storm clouds may gather / And stars may collide / But I love you (I love you)." "Come What May," which was featured on the original soundtrack as well as in the film, was nominated for a 2002 Golden Globe Award for Best Original SongMotion Picture, but lost out Sting's "Until" from Kate & Leopold.
